The omni-wheel is what this chair is actually selling, and it solves a specific access problem rather than being a novelty. Each front wheel carries 10 small rollers set around its circumference. Because those rollers turn sideways, the wheel can move laterally as well as forward — so the chair changes direction without needing to swing its front end through an arc first. WHILL publish a turning radius 45% tighter than a conventional tiller-steered device. In practice that is the difference between a client who can get into their own bathroom, kitchen or lift and one who cannot. It also changes how the chair drives. There is no tiller and no steering arc to plan around, so a client with limited shoulder range or reduced grip is not fighting a handlebar — the joystick and the wheels do the work. Published specifications: 20 km range, 6 km/h top speed, 136 kg capacity, gradients to 10 degrees, four-wheel suspension and electromagnetic brakes. Two features matter for the wider support plan. The chair disassembles in four steps for vehicle transport, which is what makes it viable without a hoist or a modified vehicle. And it connects to a smartphone app, which allows a carer to drive it remotely — useful for loading, parking or repositioning in a tight space without the client needing to be in it. What it is not: a rehab base. There is no tilt, no recline, no powered seat function and no mounting for a prescribed seating system. For a client with pressure-injury risk, postural asymmetry or all-day sitting needs, this is the wrong category and a rehab powerchair is the correct prescription. Where the client's problem is access, independence and getting out of the house, it is a strong answer.
