The SB2T is the TubBuddy with a tilt/recline function added, and the tilt is doing specific clinical work rather than adding comfort. Two problems it addresses. First, sitting tolerance: a client with poor trunk control, low endurance or a tendency to slide forward often cannot hold an upright seated posture for the length of a shower. Tilting the whole seating system backwards uses gravity to hold them against the backrest instead of requiring them to hold themselves there, which is what makes a full shower achievable rather than abandoned halfway. Second, pressure. Prolonged sitting on a commode aperture is a recognised pressure risk because the rim of the opening concentrates load into a narrow band of tissue around the perirectal and ischial area. Where bowel care or assisted bathing means extended time on the chair, the ability to tilt and shift that load matters. It should still be paired with an appropriate cushion — tilt redistributes load, it does not eliminate the aperture edge. The tilt also brings the head into a supported position, which is why the neck rest is part of the specification. Everything else is the TubBuddy platform: chair-and-bridge transfer over a standard bathtub wall with no bathroom modification, doubling as shower chair, commode and over-toilet unit. Published equipment includes a front-opening cushion, neck rest, swing-away removable footrests with calf strap, flip-back lockable removable armrests, 5" locking casters, removable commode bucket with lid, and chest and lap belts. The tilt mechanism adds weight to the unit, so confirm the carer can manoeuvre it in the actual bathroom, and measure the bath width and doorway before quoting — Showerbuddy publish a BathCheck calculator for exactly this.
