Studio Comfort Plus Bariatric is the 300 kg version of the Studio Comfort platform, and bariatric pressure care has failure points that a capacity figure alone does not cover. Work through these at assessment. First, the mattress rating is not the only limit — the bed frame, the lifting motors and the side rails all have their own ratings, and a 300 kg mattress on a 200 kg bed frame is not a 300 kg solution. Check the whole system. Second, width. A bariatric client on a standard-width mattress will have tissue overhanging the edge, loaded against the frame or rail. Specify the mattress width against the client, and check that the bed frame and any rails match it — a mattress wider than its frame creates an entrapment gap at the rail, which is a recognised safety hazard. Third, and most often missed: a higher-capacity foam surface is necessarily firmer, because it has to support greater load without bottoming out. Firmer means less immersion, and less immersion means a smaller contact area carrying the same weight — so interface pressure at the sacrum can be higher on a bariatric surface than on a standard one for a client of the same risk profile. Bariatric clients also often have limited independent repositioning. If both are true, a static bariatric surface may not be sufficient and an active bariatric configuration should be considered instead.
