**Collapsible rail kit, 1380 × 450 mm** — sized for the Lo Lo. Note this is the *long* kit; the SmartFlex and ErgoAdjust Lo Lo take an 860 mm kit. Confirm the bed model before ordering, because they are not interchangeable. **Bed rails are a restrictive practice, and in Australian aged care they require assessment, consent and documentation before use.** They are not a default accessory. Prescribe them for a specific purpose — usually bed mobility support or preventing an unintentional roll — not as general fall prevention. **They do not reliably prevent falls, and can make them worse.** A person determined to get out of bed will climb over or around a rail, and then falls from a greater height onto a harder landing. Where night-time exiting is the actual risk, a floor-level bed and a fall mat is usually the better clinical answer — which is precisely what the Lo Lo's 230 mm low position exists for. **Entrapment is the specific hazard.** The gaps to check at fitting are between the rail bars, between rail and mattress, between rail and headboard, and under the rail end. A soft or compressible mattress edge is a common cause of a gap that only opens up under load, so check it with someone actually lying on the bed rather than on an empty mattress. **Collapsible** means the rail folds down rather than being removed, so it can be lowered for transfers and raised only when indicated. That supports intermittent, purposeful use rather than leaving it permanently up.
