Quickie Xtender

120kg

The Quickie® Xtender™ expands the range of mobility for manual wheelchair users by adding power assisted wheels to a manual frame. The Xtender increases your travel distance and propulsion efficiency and reduces overall fatigue while allowing you to maintain the look, control, and functionality of a manual wheelchair. Developed by Quickie and Yamaha, the Xtender features motorised rear wheels that increase the force you apply to the handrims by 4 x times! This increases your range of mobility by reducing energy expenditure by as much as 45% and decreasing the burn of fatigue. Research has also shown that the Quickie Xtender Power Assist Device may help reduce or even prevent the occurrence of secondary injuries to the wrists, elbows, and shoulders including Repetitive Strain Injury. The Xtender's quick-release wheels allow you to remove the entire motor/wheel assembly from the chair. This allows for easy transitions between traditional manual and assisted propulsion. Because the Xtender is used with manual wheelchair frames, it stores and transports just like a manual wheelchair.

From the manufacturer

Developed jointly by QUICKIE and Yamaha. The motorised rear wheels multiply the force applied to the handrims by four times, which Sunrise states reduces energy expenditure by as much as 45%. Sunrise also states that research indicates the Xtender may help reduce or prevent secondary injury to the wrists, elbows and shoulders, including repetitive strain injury — relevant where a long-term manual user is showing early upper-limb overuse. The two wheel units are electronically synchronised and continuously adjust their speeds to each other to produce straight propulsion from uneven input, which Sunrise identifies as particularly useful for users with hemiplegia, paraplegia, quadriplegia or tetraplegia. Rollback prevention holds position during hill climbs and downhill speed control governs descent; neither requires programming. The wheels are quick-release, so the entire motor and wheel assembly comes off and the chair reverts to a standard manual chair for transport and storage. Three operating modes are available — Single, Bi and Sports — with mode and model compatibility set out in the brochure. The auto-engage hub fits a range of Sunrise lightweight frames including QUICKIE Nitrum, QUICKIE 2 Series, GP Series, ZIPPIE X'Cape, Breezy BasiX, QUICKIE 5R, QUICKIE 7R and Xenon²; other frames on application. Total added weight 17 kg, range 15–27 km, NiMH or lithium-ion batteries.

We aim to make our range as accessible as possible. Some products may not be available in all areas — please contact BMS Plus to confirm availability and discuss suitable options.
