The Q500 M Mini is specified when the constraint is the environment rather than the client. Sunrise Medical publishes a 17" minimum turning radius (without footplates) and an overall length of 33", which is the practical reason to choose it: it turns essentially on the spot and fits into lifts, doorways, kitchens and bathrooms that a rear or front-wheel drive base cannot enter. True mid-wheel drive places the drive wheels under the user's centre of mass, so the chair rotates around the occupant instead of swinging the front or rear of the base through an arc. Seat-to-floor height starts at 16.5", which matters in two specific situations — getting the knees under a standard dining or work table, and driving a wheelchair-accessible vehicle from the chair. The usual objection to a compact mid-wheel base is that it gives up outdoor capability. Here that is partly answered: 12" drive wheels handle kerbs up to 3", four-pole motors drive it, and all six wheels stay on the ground over obstacles thanks to patented independent all-wheel suspension. Range is up to 30 km on a 34 Ah battery at up to 10 kph. Occupied-transit tie-down brackets are fitted as standard at no charge, which is worth noting where school or community transport is part of the plan. Seating is SEDEO PRO: seat width 16–20", depth 16–22", backrest height 18–28", with depth, width, back angle and height, legrest angle, lower leg length and armrest position all adjustable using one tool — so the chair can be re-fitted as the client changes rather than replaced. Backrest options include a 150° powered recline with 4" of shear reduction, which is the feature that matters for anyone at pressure-injury risk: reclining without shear compensation drags the sacral skin against the cushion, and shear at the sacrum is the mechanism behind most seated pressure injuries. The optional C-Me seat elevation raises up to 12" and, unlike most elevating systems, allows driving at up to 4.5 kph while elevated without the suspension locking out. Controls are VR2 or R-Net, with optional infrared environmental control and Bluetooth for up to four devices — relevant where the chair is also the client's access point to their home and communication.
