Read the capacity figure carefully on this one. Pride's current sell sheet states 115 kg — wheelchair and user combined, not user alone. A 15 kg manual chair leaves roughly 100 kg of client weight, and that is the number to work from at assessment. It is a common source of error when a power-assist unit is quoted against a client's body weight in isolation. The device itself is an attendant aid, not a rider control. Pride describes it as designed to help caregivers push a manual wheelchair in situations that are otherwise strenuous — inclines and loose gravel are the two they name. It is operated by a squeeze trigger by the person pushing. Where it earns its place in a plan is carer sustainability. Pushing a loaded manual chair up a driveway or ramp is a repeated task with real musculoskeletal cost, and it is a frequent reason an ageing spouse or parent stops being able to sustain community access. Naming that explicitly is usually more persuasive in a funding submission than describing the device as a convenience. Published specifications: up to 10 km per charge, maximum speed 5 km/h, maximum gradient 6°, fits seat widths 16–20" (40.6–50 cm), unit weight 14 kg including a 6 kg battery. Where the client or chair exceeds the combined limit, or the chair is wider than 20", specify the Power Assist HD instead.
