The FIKA is a static foam mattress rated for prevention and treatment of pressure damage up to and including **category 2** — partial-thickness skin loss. That is the honest ceiling for the body of the mattress, and it should be matched to the client rather than stretched. But there is an important exception, and it is the reason to choose this mattress specifically. The OFFLOADER function suspends the heel for zero pressure, and with it the FIKA is rated for prevention and treatment of heel ulcers **up to and including category 4**. That distinction is worth understanding. The heel is the second most common site for pressure injury after the sacrum, and it is the hardest to protect by redistribution. The calcaneus has almost no soft tissue over it and a very small surface area, so spreading load across a larger contact patch — which is how every other part of a mattress works — barely reduces the pressure there. The only reliable answer is to take the heel off the surface entirely. A section of the mattress that suspends the heel does that, where a pillow under the calf usually slips out of position within an hour. So the FIKA is the right prescription for a specific and common client: someone at moderate overall risk whose real problem is their heels. Where the client has, or is at high risk of, sacral breakdown beyond category 2, an active surface such as the OSKA Alto Series 3 is the appropriate step up. Being a static surface is a genuine advantage where it fits — nothing to switch off, no pump to fail, no settings for a carer to get wrong, no noise, and no instability during transfers. The cover is 4-way stretch and vapour permeable. The stretch reduces hammocking and the shear it transmits; the permeability manages the heat and moisture that make skin more vulnerable at any given pressure. Capacity is 159 kg.
