The Vertical Lift recliner has been designed to assist with a range of high care needs. The chair lifts vertically to better assist with getting out of the chair, and into a standing position. The showood arms offer further support, allowing you to hold onto the armrests while getting in and out of the chair. This option is often requested for users requiring a wheelchair, having loss of strength in their legs, suffering vertigo, or have a preference to be in a standing position when getting in and out of a chair.

This is the one chair in the Oscar range that solves a different problem from the rest, and the distinction is worth being precise about. A conventional lift recliner tips the seat forward to bring the client to standing. That only works if they can accept weight through their legs. The Vertical Lift raises the seat vertically, keeping the client level and seated throughout. Oscar's own description names the groups this is built for: people requiring wheelchair assistance, people with leg weakness, people with vertigo, and people who simply prefer to be brought to a standing posture rather than tipped into it. A forward-tipping mechanism provokes postural dizziness; a vertical one does not. Combined with removable or drop-down arms, the vertical action opens up the side transfer — across to a wheelchair or commode, or with a hoist — rather than restricting the client to sit-to-stand. Oscar also notes the arms come away to let a carer deliver treatment at an ergonomic working height, which is a carer-safety argument as much as a client one. Showood arms give something solid to push through on the way in and out. Forward and backward tilt can be specified, giving Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg positioning where the treating clinician has prescribed it. Capacity is up to 170 kg — higher than the 130 kg standard across Oscar's other lift chairs. Three backrest styles are available: the Barwon three-roll, the Hudson two-piece, or a straight back, so the postural support can be matched to the client without changing chair. Seat height, width, depth and back height are all adjustable, with a gluteal recess available. Made in Australia by Oscar Furniture in Horsham, Victoria.
