The Barwon's real strength for prescription is fit. Oscar builds it in four sizes mapped to user height — Mini for 122–157 cm, Size A for 157–173 cm, Size B for 173–180 cm and Size C for over 180 cm — and then allows every critical geometry to be modified on top of that: seat height, width and depth, back height, arm height, footrest length, gluteal recess. That matters more than it sounds. A lift chair with too much seat depth forces the client to slide forward into a posterior pelvic tilt to reach the backrest, and sacral sitting is the postural precursor to a sacral pressure injury. Getting the depth right is a pressure-injury intervention, not a comfort preference. Mechanism options step up in capability: • 1 motor with wall-saver — the chair travels forward as it reclines, so it does not need clearance behind. Useful in small units and aged-care rooms. • 2 motor — back angle independent of the legrest, with a lay-flat back. • 3 motor — adds independent tilt in space with 24 degrees of tilt. • 4 and 5 motor — add the Comfort Pack: headrest tilt and a lumbar airbag adjuster. One honest caveat on the tilt. Twenty-four degrees is enough to stabilise posture, arrest forward sliding and let gravity assist repositioning, but it sits below the tilt range usually cited for effective offloading of the ischial tuberosities. For a client with an existing pressure injury or high risk, the tilt should be paired with a proper pressure cushion rather than relied on alone — Oscar will fit a ROHO or add memory foam or Hygroflex to the build. Standard capacity is 130 kg; a heavy-duty 2-motor mechanism upgrade lifts that to 180 kg, so confirm which mechanism is being quoted where client weight is close to the limit. VersoTela fabrics come with antimicrobial coating, mould, scratch and fire resistance as standard. Battery backup is fitted for power failures, but Oscar is explicit that it is intended for a single use, not to run the chair through an outage. Warranty: 5 years foam and frame, 2 years mechanism, electrics and fabric. Made in Australia.
