The Aurora 2 Hill Climber is the most powerful scooter in the Merits range and is specified for terrain rather than for comfort. K Care publishes a maximum gradient of 12 degrees, which is steeper than most scooters will manage and is the reason to choose this model where the client has a steep driveway, a sloping approach to the house, or lives in a hilly area. Range is 40–50 km on a full charge with an 8A charger, which is a full day out rather than a trip to the shops. Ground handling is built for rough surfaces: 12" pneumatic tyres front and rear with 130 mm of ground clearance, and adjustable suspension. The 400W rated motor (1750W maximum) drives through a Rhino 2 160A controller on 2 x 12V 60–85Ah batteries. Turning circle is 1610 mm in the four-wheel configuration — this is a large scooter and indoor manoeuvrability is not its purpose. Two safety features are worth noting in a submission: automatic speed reduction on turning, which guards against a cornering tip, and a separate emergency brake in addition to the standard electromagnetic brakes. K Care states the scooter meets AS/NZS 3695.2:2013. Seat height adjusts from 640–710 mm from the ground, and total weight with batteries is 130 kg — relevant if vehicle transport is being considered, as this model is not designed to be dismantled and lifted.
