**Lockable 3-inch Hi-Lo castors in chrome, giving 4 inches (approximately 100 mm) of under-bed clearance.** **That clearance figure is the specification that matters, and it is the one most often missed.** It determines whether a mobile floor hoist can get its legs under the bed. A hoist that cannot reach under the bed cannot be used, regardless of its lift capacity — and this is usually discovered at the point of a transfer rather than at assessment. Check the clearance required by the specific hoist before choosing castor size. Avante offer the range in 3, 4 and 5 inch, giving 4, 5 and 6 inches of clearance respectively. **If a floor lifter is in the picture, or might be within the equipment's life, specify up.** The cost of going larger is that the whole bed sits higher, which raises transfer height and eats into the benefit of a low bed. On a Lo Lo specified for its 230 mm floor position, large castors partly defeat the purpose — so the decision is genuinely a trade-off between hoist access and low height, not a free upgrade. **Lockable**, and the locks should be applied for every transfer, not just for parking.
