**Check the 100 kg safe working load first.** It is low — most manual wheelchairs are rated 115–136 kg — and it is the constraint most likely to rule this chair out. Weigh the client rather than estimating, because the weight saving that makes this chair attractive is the same thing that limits its capacity. **S-Ergo patented seating.** This is the reason to choose a Karma over a generic folding wheelchair, and it addresses a specific problem. On a standard folding wheelchair the sling seat sags into a hammock. The pelvis rolls backwards, the client slides forward into sacral sitting, and load concentrates on the sacrum and ischial tuberosities. It is the default posture of anyone left in a basic wheelchair for a few hours, and a direct pressure injury pathway. The S-Ergo seat is shaped to hold the pelvis rather than let it slide, keeping the client sitting **on** the seat instead of gradually sliding **down** it. For anyone spending real time in the chair, that is worth more than the weight saving. **Available as transit or self-propelling.** The distinction is the rear wheel — 14-inch on this model. Self-propelling wheels are large enough to reach and push; transit wheels require an attendant. Specify from what the client can actually do, and note that someone who self-propels indoors may still need attendant propulsion outdoors. **Push-and-pull brake system** — the brake can be applied and released in either direction, which suits reduced grip and limited shoulder range better than a single-direction lever. **Detachable swing-away footrests** clear the space in front of the chair for stand transfers and let the client get their feet under them to rise. **Double cross brace** for frame rigidity.
