**The lateral support backrest is the reason to choose this variant, and it is a postural decision rather than a comfort one.** Lateral supports — the wings either side of the trunk — stop the client leaning sideways. Specify them where trunk control is asymmetric or weak: after a stroke with hemiplegia, with scoliosis, with a pelvic obliquity, or with a progressive condition that has begun to affect trunk stability. **Why it matters over months rather than minutes.** A client who consistently leans to one side develops a fixed lateral posture. The trunk shortens on the loaded side, the pelvis rotates, and load concentrates on one ischial tuberosity — both a pressure injury risk and a deformity that gets harder to correct the longer it runs. The trade-off: laterals restrict sideways movement and reach. **Where trunk control is adequate, specify standard support instead** — don't fit laterals by default. **Available in standard and petite.** A smaller client in a standard-size chair cannot get their back to the backrest without their feet leaving the floor, so they slide forward and sacral sit — with the laterals then sitting at the wrong height on the trunk and doing nothing. **Dual motor**, so backrest and leg rest drive independently rather than on one fixed recline arc. That matters for a fixed hip angle, a flexion contracture, or legs needing elevation above heart height for oedema. Headrest and lumbar support included. **Safe working load 158 kg.** **Set the lift so it brings the client to standing height without tipping them forward off the front edge.** An over-set lift is a push, not an assist.
