Invacare Softform Premier Active 2

247.6kg

High/Very High Risk. The Softform Premier Active 2 retains properties as a high-risk static mattress but should clinical judgement determine that the patient requires stepping up to a dynamic surface. A discrete pump can be fitted to the air insert transforming the mattress into a dynamic surface and delivering additional levels of pressure relief.

From the manufacturer

**A hybrid: a high-risk reactive foam mattress that becomes a very-high-risk alternating surface when a pump is fitted.** That is the point of it, and it solves a real problem. Normally, stepping a patient up from a static mattress to an alternating one means swapping the whole mattress — a manual handling job, a transfer for a patient who is by definition deteriorating, and a second mattress to store. Here the **same mattress stays on the bed** and a discrete pump is added or removed. Rated **High Risk** without the pump, **Very High Risk** with the RX control unit. That also means it can be stepped back **down** just as easily when skin improves, which rarely happens in practice because the swap is too much trouble. **In a power failure the patient is still lying on a high-risk pressure-reducing foam surface.** This is the single most important difference from a pure air mattress, which deflates toward the bed platform when power is lost or the pump fails. For a home setting with unreliable power, or where a pump fault might not be noticed overnight, that is a substantial safety margin. **Air cells alternate on a 10-minute cycle** to promote tissue recovery and redistribute load. **The air system sits beneath the foam insert**, not above it — which markedly reduces the risk of a sharps puncture. Anywhere subcutaneous injections or sharps are in use around the bed, that is worth knowing. **Single-piece foam U-core.** The raised side walls give something firm to sit on at the edge, which supports transfers — an edge that collapses under a patient perching to stand is a genuine fall mechanism, and most pressure mattresses have exactly that problem. **Two-way stretch PU waterproof cover.** Two-way stretch is what lets the cover move with the patient rather than bridging across the surface — a cover that doesn't stretch defeats immersion and is a common, easily missed reason a good mattress underperforms. It also reduces shear and friction at the skin. Cover construction for infection control: **high-frequency welded seams**, a **full-length flap concealing the zip**, and a toughened PU-coated base. Water penetration resistance **35 kPa minimum to BS 3424-26**, still 35 kPa after **20,000 cycles** of Martindale abrasion testing to EN ISO 5470-2 — that is a durability figure worth quoting where the mattress will be cleaned repeatedly. **Does not require turning**, which removes a recurring manual handling task. **User weight 247.6 kg.** Mattress 1970 × 880 × 152 mm, 14 kg. Control unit 275 × 155 × 105 mm, 1.75 kg. **Check the 152 mm depth against your bed's side rails** — the Invacare CS8, for instance, requires mattress depth between 100 and 170 mm when rails are fitted, so this pairs correctly. Not every combination does.
