The R10 is the one device in the Empulse range designed for the attendant rather than the rider, and that distinction should drive how it is justified. Sunrise Medical classes it as caregiver assist with attendant control; the client does not operate it. The clinical problem it solves is carer load. Pushing a manual chair up a driveway, a ramp or a long approach is a repeated loaded task, and it is one of the more common reasons a carer's own musculoskeletal health becomes a factor in a care plan. Where a support plan is being built around sustaining a spouse or ageing parent in the caring role, or around reducing the number of carer hours needed for community access, the R10 is the device that addresses it directly. Three fixed speeds — 1.5, 3 and 4.5 km/h — keep the chair at walking pace and let the attendant match their own gait rather than being pulled along. Published range is up to 12 km and the unit weighs 6.9 kg, so it is light enough to be removed and stowed. Suitable environments are indoor and urban.
