The M90 replaces the client's rear wheels with 24" powered wheels rather than bolting a separate unit onto the chair. There are no wires, no frame-mounted motor and nothing protruding front or rear, so the chair keeps its original footprint, its original transfer access and its original appearance. Weight is 11.9 kg total, 5.9 kg per wheel, which means each wheel can be lifted separately — a meaningful difference for a client or carer loading a car. The reason to reach for the M90 over the rest of the Empulse range is control options. It can be driven by speed controller with handrim steering, by user-selectable dual drive, or by joystick, and Sunrise Medical's selection guidance is the only one in the family to list it as suitable for impaired hand function. Where a client cannot manage a handlebar throttle or sustained handrim contact, the M90 with joystick control is the device that still works. It also spans impaired to high upper limb strength. Published range is 15 km at up to 6 kph, for indoor and urban environments. That is a shorter range and lower speed than the pull and push devices — the M90 buys control and discretion rather than distance, and where a client's priority is long community trips the R90 is the better fit.
We aim to make our range as accessible as possible. Some products may not be available in all areas — please contact BMS Plus to confirm availability and discuss suitable options.
