The F55 is the larger of the Empulse pull devices, and the 8.5" wheel version is the compact end of that model. Sunrise Medical publishes a range of 25 km and a top speed of 15 kph, from 13 kg with battery — roughly 4 kg heavier than the F35 for around 10 km more range. A pull device docks at the front of the manual chair and lifts the castors off the ground, converting it to a three-wheeler driven from a handlebar throttle. The practical consequence is that surface quality stops mattering nearly as much: broken footpaths, gravel, driveway crossovers and kerb ramps become manageable in a way they are not with castors down. The trade-off is a longer overall length when docked, which affects lifts, doorways and vehicle loading, and the fact that docking and undocking is itself a task the client has to be able to perform. The 8.5" wheel keeps the ride height and docked length shorter than the 14" version. Where the client's routine involves genuinely rough or off-road ground, the 14" F55 is the more capable specification; where it is urban surfaces and vehicle transport, the 8.5" is the more practical one. As with the rest of the pull range, this device suits a rider with moderate to high hand function — for impaired hand function the M90 wheel add-on is the alternative.
