Five independent motors is the specification that separates this from a conventional lift recliner, and it is worth understanding what each one buys. A single-motor chair moves the backrest and footrest together on one linkage — the client gets one shape, and reclining always lifts the legs. Independent motors mean the back angle, the leg rest, the tilt, the headrest and the lumbar can each be set separately. That produces genuinely infinite positioning rather than three preset shapes, and it matters for a client who sits in the chair all day: the ability to make small, frequent changes to the loading pattern is how tissue is protected between formal repositions. The most important of the five is tilt. Tilt and recline are different actions and are often confused. Recline opens the hip angle by dropping the backrest, which shifts load rearward but also causes the client to slide against the surface — the shear that drives sacral breakdown. Tilt rotates the whole seat and back as one unit, preserving the hip and knee angles, so load moves off the ischial tuberosities without the client sliding. For a client at pressure risk, tilt is the function doing the clinical work and it should be named specifically in a submission. The Standard and Petite sizes exist because chair fit is a clinical matter, not a preference. A seat too deep for the client forces them to slide forward to reach the backrest, which drops them into sacral sitting and defeats everything else the chair does.
