The Cirrus system represents a new generation of dynamic air mattress systems that provide pain management as well as pressure reduction. By combining air with a visco soft foam surface provides a special degree of user comfort as well as significant pressure reduction. The foam structure incorporating the alternating cells enables the user to obtain a comfortable and relaxed posture in any position. The unique heel slope and anti-shear inner cover further enhance the users comfort and protection. The very quiet pump is appreciated by all carers.

CuroCell A4 Cirrus is rated as an aid in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers up to and including **category 4** and unclassified or unstageable injuries — the top of the range, appropriate where a full-thickness wound already exists rather than only where risk is high. Getting that category mapping right is what a funding submission turns on. A surface rated to category 2 on a category 3 or 4 wound is under-treatment; a category 4 system for a low-risk client is over-specification. Both are answerable questions, and the category rating is the clean answer to them. The surface combines air cells with a visco soft foam top layer rather than using air alone. Foam over air gives immersion and a stable surface while the cells beneath do the offloading — a pure air surface can feel unstable, which makes repositioning and transfers harder and is a common reason systems get switched off in practice. The foam structure that carries the alternating cells is what lets the client settle into a relaxed posture in any position rather than only supine. The alternation is described by Care of Sweden as a wave-like process, positioned specifically for pain therapy. A gentler, progressive pressure change is often tolerated by a client who cannot cope with abrupt cell-by-cell cycling, and a surface the client refuses to lie on delivers nothing. The pump is fully automatic with no manual settings, which removes the single most common community failure mode — a pump left on the previous client's weight setting — and it is quiet, which is the other reason systems get turned off at night. Two further design features earn their place. A heel slope relieves pressure at the heels, which redistribution alone cannot do because the calcaneus has minimal soft tissue over a very small surface area. And an anti-shear inner cover addresses the second half of the pressure problem: a stiff inner layer hammocks under the body and transmits shear straight into the sacral skin when the client moves or the bed head is raised. Safe working load is 230 kg. One note before quoting: Care of Sweden now list a CuroCell IQ Cirrus where the A4 Cirrus previously sat, which suggests the A4 may have been superseded.
