From the manufacturer

Same rear-wheel drive platform as the Bounder 300, rated to 204 kg rather than 136 kg — which is the reason to choose it. Rear-wheel drive is the defining decision. The driven wheels sit behind the centre of mass, so the chair tracks straight and stays composed at speed instead of fishtailing. The cost is indoor manoeuvrability: the front of the base swings through an arc when turning, so it needs more clearance than a mid-wheel chair. Prescribe it where the client's environment is outdoor and demanding — rural property, unsealed ground, long distances, steep approaches — and prescribe a mid-wheel base where the constraint is a small home. Construction: TIG-welded 2.5" x 1.5" x 0.125" steel tube frame, gearless motors, high-output electronics, independent drive-wheel suspension, sliding dual Group 24 battery box. 21st Century Scientific have been building these since 1979; the chairs are known for longevity rather than lightness. Because the chair is heavy, transport is a real constraint rather than an afterthought. Check the vehicle hoist rating, the ramp rating and any home lift against the combined client-plus-chair weight, not the client's weight alone — this is the most common point at which a heavy-duty powerchair prescription comes unstuck after delivery. Speed options run high by powerchair standards. Specify deliberately rather than by default: a fast chair in the hands of a client with slower reaction time or reduced visual field is a risk rather than a feature. Where the client's weight exceeds 204 kg, the Big Bounder is the bariatric model in the same family.
