From the manufacturer

**Leg height 115 mm, ground clearance 35 mm.** These are the numbers that decide whether the hoist can be used at all. The legs have to pass under the bed or chair — measure the actual furniture before specifying, because a hoist that cannot reach under the bed is useless regardless of its capacity. This is the most common reason a delivered hoist turns out to be unusable. **Inside width with legs open: 640 mm.** That is the gap the legs straddle. Check it against the base of the client's armchair, recliner or power wheelchair — a wide chair base can prevent the hoist getting close enough to lift centrally. **Turning diameter 1400 mm.** Needs 1.4 m of clear floor to come about. Bedrooms are usually fine; ensuites frequently are not. **Lift range 415–1660 mm at the sling hook.** The 415 mm bottom of range is what allows a **floor recovery after a fall** without calling an ambulance — worth stating explicitly in a report where falls are the presenting risk. **Safe working load 180 kg.** Unit weight 40 kg. Lifting speed 30 mm/s, around **40 lifts per charge**. **Three features that change the transfer experience:** - **Slow'R** — a patented dampener built into the boom that reduces the client rocking during the lift. Rocking is distressing for the client and makes the carer's job harder; damping it gives the carer more control and the client a calmer transfer - **The boom and spreader bar are deliberately curved** so the carer keeps eye contact with the client through the whole lift. Being hoisted while unable to see the person doing it is a genuine source of anxiety - **Ergonomic hook design** — sling loops attach one-handed, and the hook nose is shaped to stop slings sliding off unintentionally **SMARTLOCK** allows the spreader bar to be swapped without tools, secured by a swallow-tail connection and locking pin. The leg spread and the emergency lowering are each available **electrical or mechanical** — specify mechanical emergency lowering regardless, because it works with a flat battery, which is exactly when it is needed. Folds without tools and the mast detaches from the base without tools, for transport and storage. **Note:** Invacare also make a **Birdie EVO XPLUS at 210 kg**, which we do not currently list. Worth knowing if a client sits between 180 and 210 kg.

We aim to make our range as accessible as possible. Some products may not be available in all areas — please contact BMS Plus to confirm availability and discuss suitable options.
