**The compact one — and the trade-offs are precise, so compare them against the standard Birdie EVO before choosing.** | | EVO Compact | EVO | |---|---|---| | Safe working load | **150 kg** | 180 kg | | Turning diameter | **1210 mm** | 1400 mm | | Base width | **815 mm** | 1020 mm | | Inside width, legs open | **520 mm** | 640 mm | | Lift range | **530–1590 mm** | 415–1660 mm | | Unit weight | **31 kg** | 40 kg | **Choose the Compact for space, not for capacity.** A 1210 mm turning diameter and 815 mm base is what lets it work in a small ensuite, a narrow bedroom, or a unit where the standard Birdie simply cannot turn. **But note the lift range starts at 530 mm, not 415 mm.** That is the significant clinical difference. The Compact **cannot reach as low**, which makes floor recovery after a fall considerably harder or impossible. If falls are the presenting risk and floor pick-up is part of the plan, specify the standard EVO and solve the space problem another way. **Inside width with legs open is 520 mm** — noticeably narrower. Check it against the base of the client's armchair or power wheelchair, because the legs have to straddle it. **At 31 kg it is the lightest in the range**, which matters where the hoist has to be moved between rooms or floors, or transported. **Leg height 115 mm, ground clearance 35 mm** — same as the standard EVO. Measure the client's actual bed before specifying. Lifting speed 23 mm/s, slower than the EVO's 30 mm/s. Around **40 lifts per charge**. Same **Slow'R** boom dampener to reduce client rocking, **SMARTLOCK** tool-free spreader bar exchange, and the one-handed **ergonomic sling hooks**. Curved boom keeps the carer in the client's eye line throughout. Folds without tools; mast detaches from base without tools.
