Big Bounder Bariatric Powered Wheelchair

450kg

The Big Bounder 1000 is a heavy-duty power wheelchair engineered for bariatric users weighing up to 450 kg. Its reinforced rear-wheel drive platform offers exceptional stability across a variety of terrains—yet unlike many traditional rear-wheel drive chairs, it delivers smooth, predictable handling without excessive turning arcs or fishtailing. This makes it equally capable in both indoor spaces and outdoor environments. Built for customisation, it accommodates seat widths from 26" to 36" (66 cm to 91 cm) and depths from 16" to 22" (41 cm to 56 cm), with additional bespoke sizing available for a perfect fit. Powered by Super Torque 4S motors with integrated brakes, the Big Bounder 1000 delivers consistent, high-performance drive. The Independent Drive Wheel Suspension (IDWS) improves ride comfort and traction, while its TIG-welded steel H-style frame ensures long-term strength and resilience. A sliding dual Group 24 battery box extends range and simplifies servicing, and heavy-duty caster fork springs provide additional stability. For advanced positioning, the Big Bounder 1000 offers power seating options—tilt, recline, and anterior tilt—operated by joystick, push button, or toggle switch. The black powder-coated finish adds durability and a refined appearance, while every chair is custom-built to maximise seat width without compromising home accessibility.

From the manufacturer

Rated to 450 kg, custom-built, and the most capable bariatric powerchair in this catalogue — but bariatric powered mobility fails in specific, predictable ways, so work through these before quoting. The capacity figure is only one of several limits. The floor, the ramp, the vehicle hoist and any home lift all have their own weight ratings, and what has to clear them is the combined client-plus-chair weight, not the client's alone. On a chair of this construction that is a substantial addition. A chair rated for the client but too heavy for their ramp is not a solution. The second is seating. Bariatric clients are frequently at high pressure-injury risk, and a heavy-duty base with a basic seat gives no tilt, no recline and no pressure management. The Big Bounder does offer powered tilt, recline and anterior tilt operated by joystick, push button or toggle — specify them deliberately where the client sits all day, rather than treating the base as the whole prescription. Seat sizing is where this chair is genuinely strong: widths from 26" to 36" (66–91 cm) and depths from 16" to 22" (41–56 cm), with bespoke sizing available. Cubro note that chairs are built to maximise seat width without compromising home accessibility — which is the right way round, because a seat the client fits but the doorway does not is the standard bariatric failure. Measure the narrowest doorway and the bathroom turning circle first and let that set the ceiling on seat width. The base: reinforced rear-wheel drive with Super Torque 4S motors and integrated brakes, Independent Drive Wheel Suspension for traction and ride, TIG-welded steel H-frame, sliding dual Group 24 battery box, heavy-duty caster fork springs. Cubro describe the handling as avoiding the excessive turning arcs and fishtailing associated with conventional rear-wheel drive, which is what makes it workable indoors as well as out — worth verifying on trial in the client's actual home rather than taking on the specification sheet.
