From the manufacturer
A vertical pole fixed at the bedside, giving a hand-hold to pull up on and steady against when standing. **A pole works differently from a grab rail, and suits a different problem.** A horizontal grab rail is best for rolling and sitting up in bed. A vertical pole is best for the **sit-to-stand transition and the moment of standing balance immediately after** — because the hand can travel up the pole as the body rises, keeping support continuous through the whole movement. A fixed horizontal rail runs out of usefulness as soon as the person is upright. For someone whose difficulty is the last part of standing, or the wobble in the first two seconds on their feet, the pole is the better prescription. **Two sizes, matched to the bed:** - **380 × 515 mm** — Lo Lo and ErgoAdjust Lo Lo - **530 × 585 mm** — SmartFlex 3 and ErgoAdjust Care **It is an assistive aid, not a restraint**, so it does not attract the restrictive-practice assessment and consent requirements that a full bed rail does in aged care. Worth knowing when the alternative being considered is a rail.
