Aspire Lifecomfort Bariatric Foam Mattress

150-300kg

The LIFECOMFORT® BARIATRIC is a robust support surface designed for larger users up to 300kg. Four foam tiers with a visco-elastic memory foam upper provide immersion for pressure reduction and comfort as well as support. Sidewall foam density is strengthened to assist heavier users with bed entry and exit. Fitted with superior, hospital-grade polyurethane-coated covers designed to withstand the rigors of usage and cleaning requirements in Home Care, Aged Care, and Acute Care environments.

From the manufacturer

The design detail that separates a genuine bariatric mattress from a standard one relabelled is the sidewall, and Aspire have built it in deliberately: the side wall foam density is strengthened specifically to support heavier users entering and exiting the bed. That is not a comfort feature. A bariatric client sits on the edge of the mattress to transfer, concentrating their full weight onto a narrow band of foam. On a standard mattress the edge collapses, the client's hips drop below their knees, and the sit-to-stand becomes impossible or unsafe. Reinforced sidewalls keep the edge height stable so the transfer stays achievable — which is the difference between a client who can get out of bed and one who cannot. The construction is four foam tiers with a visco-elastic memory foam upper. The layering is doing two jobs at once: the memory foam upper provides immersion so load spreads across a larger contact area, while the firmer tiers beneath prevent bottoming out under greater weight. That balance is the hard part of bariatric surface design, because a surface firm enough to carry the load tends to be too firm to immerse into, and less immersion means higher pressure at the sacrum. The cover is hospital-grade polyurethane coated, rated by Aidacare for home care, aged care and up to acute care environments — which is what makes it survive repeated cleaning and incontinence exposure. Rated to 300 kg. Two checks before quoting. The mattress rating is only one limit: confirm the bed frame, lifting motors and any rails are rated to match, because a 300 kg mattress on a 200 kg frame is not a 300 kg solution. And confirm the mattress width against both the client and the frame — tissue overhanging the edge loads against the frame, and a mattress wider than its frame opens an entrapment gap at the rail. Where the client cannot reposition independently or has an existing wound, a static surface at this capacity may not be sufficient and an active bariatric system should be considered.
