250kg
While the FL250 achieves a low height of 110mm, full clearance under the bed is still maintained, minimising the risk of foot or cord impingement.

A floorline bed is prescribed for one reason above all others: it is the alternative to bed rails. Bed rails are a restraint and an entrapment hazard. They do not prevent falls from bed — they change a roll onto the floor into a climb over a barrier, which means the person falls from a greater height, often head-first, and sometimes becomes trapped between the rail and the mattress. Lowering the bed instead removes the height rather than adding a barrier. Where a client is at risk of falling from bed and a restraint-minimisation approach is required, a floorline bed is the intervention that satisfies both, and framing the submission that way is considerably stronger than describing the bed's features. The FL250 reaches 110 mm, and Aidacare note that full clearance is retained underneath — which matters more than it sounds, because a bed that goes low but blocks its own underside cannot be used with a floor-based hoist and complicates cleaning. Three safety features are worth naming individually: • **SmartDescent** slows the descent over the final 300 mm. The last part of the travel is where a limb or a foot is most likely to be underneath, and where an uncontrolled drop does damage. • **BrakeFirst** locks the castors automatically once the bed reaches its lowest height. Bed exit is the highest-risk moment in the whole cycle, and a bed that rolls during a transfer is a fall. • **ExitSafe** brings the bed to a flat, ergonomic position at the optimum height for the client to get in and out. That single button removes a decision from the carer and makes the safe height the default rather than something that has to be remembered. Safe working load is 250 kg, which puts it in bariatric territory. Two things to check at assessment. First, mattress height: every millimetre of mattress adds to the 110 mm, so a thick pressure-care mattress can undo most of the benefit — specify the two together. Second, if the client transfers out of bed independently, the lowest height is not the working height; the bed needs to reach the client's own sit-to-stand height too, and ExitSafe is what handles that.
