**Minimum platform height 195 mm** — an ultra-low bed. The strategy is to reduce fall *injury* rather than restrict movement: a resident who mobilises unpredictably falls a shorter distance. That makes it an alternative to bed rails, which carry their own entrapment risk and are increasingly treated as a restrictive practice. **Underbed clearance is retained for patient lifters and overbed tables.** Worth confirming at the height you will actually use, because on many low beds the clearance disappears at the lowest setting and the hoist will not fit under. **Programmable single-button height preset.** The user presses one button and the bed returns to their correct entry and exit height. This is the feature that preserves independence — finding the right height by holding a rocker switch is exactly the fiddly task that leads to someone attempting a transfer at the wrong height. **Battery backup.** During a power outage a bed stuck at 195 mm is a bed nobody can transfer out of, and one stuck high is a fall risk. This keeps the bed functional. **Luminous under-bed halo** for night-time orientation — falls cluster around unlit night transfers. **Illuminated large-button handset**, visible in a dark room without the user needing to find and read it. **Head tilt** in addition to back raise. Head tilt alone relaxes the neck for reading or watching television without raising the whole trunk, which is a genuinely different position from back raise and useful for someone spending long periods in bed. Hi-lo assists manual handling and mitigates fall risk. Vibration modes are offered for neck, shoulder and back — a comfort feature rather than a clinical one; treat it as such in a report.
