Above this, the Bariatric Custom goes to 340 kg. | Model | Safe working load | |---|---| | Premier A1 | 140 kg | | Premier A2 | 159 kg | | Premier A3 | 250 kg | | **Premier A4** | **300 kg** | | Bariatric Custom | up to 340 kg | **At this capacity, plan the room as well as the chair.** A 300 kg-rated recliner is physically large, and three things get discovered late: - **Floor loading and floor protection** — combined chair and occupant weight concentrated on four feet, often on timber or tile - **Access** — whether the assembled chair can get through the doorway and down the hall to where it needs to sit - **Recline clearance** — the space needed behind and in front when the chair is fully reclined with the leg rest up **Custom sizing is essential at bariatric capacity, and width is the measurement most often got wrong in both directions.** Too narrow and the client perches on the front edge with no back support. Too wide and they lean, which over months becomes a fixed lateral posture with load concentrated on one ischial tuberosity. **Target roughly 25 mm clearance each side of the hips.** **Also measure:** - **Seat depth** — two to three fingers between the back of the knee and the seat edge - **Seat height** — feet flat, hips level with or slightly above the knees, and err on the higher side because standing from a low seat is disproportionately harder at higher body weight - **Back height** — supporting the shoulders without pushing the head forward **Dual motor.** Independent leg rest control matters here, because oedema is common at this end of the range and legs frequently need to sit above heart height without the back also reclining. **Set the lift so it brings the client to standing height without tipping them forward.** A forward tip at 300 kg is not recoverable by the client or by a single carer.
