Alliana Air Active Overlay

This is the full-surface version of the Alliana seated system — an active overlay for a seated surface rather than a cushion sitting under the pelvis alone. The distinction matters clinically. A seat cushion protects the ischial tuberosities and the sacrum, which is where most seated pressure injuries occur. But a client who spends the majority of their day in one chair is also loading the posterior thighs, the coccyx and, if reclined, the scapulae and occiput. Where the chair is effectively the client's bed — which is the reality for a lot of people who cannot transfer, or who sleep in a recliner because of respiratory or reflux issues — the risk is spread across the whole posterior surface and a cushion alone leaves most of it unaddressed. A full-body active overlay covers that. It is the right prescription where the client's sitting time is long, unbroken and effectively continuous, and where repositioning depends on carer availability that cannot be guaranteed. Check two things before quoting. First, whether the overlay changes the seat height enough to compromise the client's foot contact and transfer — adding depth under someone in a lift recliner can lift their feet off the floor and destabilise a sit-to-stand. Second, whether it interferes with the chair's own recline or tilt mechanism. As with any active surface, it redistributes load rather than removing the need for repositioning, and it does not correct a poor seated posture. Where the client is sacral sitting, address the seating geometry first.
